When asian teams travel abroad, few utterly poor batting performances are expected. So far on this tour of South Africa, Sri Lankans haven’t met their nightmare but today they did, folding up to their lowest total in one day cricket ever, conceding a 258 run defeat which is now the new second largest defeat in ODI..

To start with, it was a quite affair as Lankan seamers kept the pressure upto home team batsmen but Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis managed to raise a 144 run stand for the second wicket, setting the platform for AB de Villiers to come and launch. AB’s quickfire half century accelerated the innings and then Albie Morkel, playing his first game for country after a while, hit couple of sixes to propel home team past 300 run mark.

Sri Lankan chase began on a sorry note, losing both openers for a duck, inside first two overs. Dinesh Chandimal in 4th over, Kumar Sangakkara & Angelo Mathews in 5th over, Mahela Jayawardene in 8th over and Nuwan Kulasekara in 11th, visitors slipped to 24 for 7 wickets in no time with all wickets going to new ball bowlers Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Young allrounder Kosala Kulasekara was the only batsman to cross double figure mark as Dale Steyn and Robin Peterson wrapped up innings a ball after 20th over.
